Local operations

Brazil's media law (No. 12,485) of September 2011 introduced several local content requirements (art. 16-25), including:

  • The requirement for all radio and television channels to broadcast at least 3.5 hours of Brazilian programmes per week during prime time, half of which must be produced by Brazilian independent producers.
  • The obligation, in any subscription plan or package, to include one Brazilian channel for every two foreign channels offered.
  • Commercial advertisements directed to the Brazilian public must involve a Brazilian advertising agency.
