Import tariff

On 8 December 2020, the Executive Committee of the Brazilian Foreign Trade Chamber issued Resolution Nº 126 eliminating the import tariff applicable to revolvers and pistols. The affected products are those classified under tariff subheading NCM 9302.00.00.

According to the WTO tariff download facility, the previously applicable average import tariff was set at 20%.

The new import duty adopted via Resolution Nº 126 applies as of 1 January 2021.

Notably, the new import tariff does not affect member state of Mercosur.

List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff
The tariff codes were included in the List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff (LECET) of Mercosur. LECET is a mechanism that allows member states of Mercosur to apply customs duties that are lower or higher than otherwise listed in the Mercosur Common External Tariff schedule. However, the tariffs shall not surpass the ceilings given by the WTO.

Mercosur Decision CMC no. 26/15 gives Brazil the right to maintain a LETEC of 100 codes based on the NCM until 31 December 2021.
