On 31 December 2020, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) increased the import duty on aluminum products.

On 31 December 2020, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice R.1428 increasing the import duties on aluminum plates, sheets, strips, and aluminum foil from duty-free to 15%. The affected products are classified under the tariff subheadings 7606 and 7607.
The import tariff applies to all countries except for the ones belonging to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), EU, and EFTA.
On 8 January 2021, SARS has established a full rebate on the subject products provided the goods are not available in the SACU market (see related state act).
