The government of Chile increased the applicable discounts on the applicable customs duties on sugar, establishing the values valid for the month of January 2021.

Import tariff

On 23 December 2020, the Chilean Government adopted Exempt Decree 543/2020 which sets the new applicable discount on customs duties on raw sugar, sugar qualified as Grade 1 or 2, as well as Grade 3 and 4, and other substandard.

The new discount values are in force for a one-month period starting on 1 January 2021 and are to be applied to the ad valorem customs duties.

For raw sugar, the discount was increased to USD 70.99 per tonne, whereas the previous discount was USD 68.87 per tonne.

In the case of sugar qualified as Grade 1 or 2, the discount was increased to USD 153.93 per tonne, while the previously applicable discount was USD 146.88 per tonne. 

Finally, the discount for sugar qualified as Grade 3 or 4 and other substandard was increased to USD 104.17 per tonne, whereas the previously applicable discount was USD 100.97 per tonne.
