On August 18th, 2020, the Taiwanese Ministry of Public Affairs released an announcement (hereafter, 'Announcement') amending its 'List of the Prohibited Commercial Engagement Practices in Taiwan Area' (hereafter, 'List').

According to the provisions governing the List, mainland Chinese firms in certain sectors, specifically online video streaming services, are forbidden from operating in Taiwan. Taiwanese locals are also forbidden from doing any business with said firms in the country.

The Announcement affects the two largest such firms, iQiYi (愛奇藝) and WeTV, effectively banning them from operating in the country.
