Import tariff

On 9 September 2020, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2020/1259 increasing the import duty applicable to certain husked rice. The duty is classified under HS code subheading 1006.20. The new duty excludes basmati rice.

According to the new legislation the import tariff was increased from EUR 42.5 (USD 50.17) per tonne to EUR 65 (USD 76.72) per tonne. The previous import tariff was set on the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/383, see related state act.

The applicable import duty on the affected commodity is calculated based on an Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Community and the United States of America introduced in 2005.

Council Regulation (EU) 2020/1259 entered into force on 9 September 2020.

Update

On 8 March 2021, the European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/401 that repeals the present measure and establishes a new duty value.
