In August 2020, the European Commission decreased the import duty imposed on certain cereal products.

On 26 August 2020, the European Commission issued Regulation No. 2020/1218, decreasing the import duty on maize, sorghum and rye from EUR 5.48 (USD 6.49) per tonne to EUR 0.26 (USD 0.31) per tonne. The products subject to import duties are classified under HS code subheadings 1002.10.00, 1002.90.00, 1005.10.90, 1005.90.00, 1007.10.90 and 1007.90.00.
The import duty is imposed following the implementation of a flexible mechanism for import tariffs on grain imports (wheat, rye, maize and sorghum) in August 2010, see related state act.
