Import tariff quota

On 22 July 2020, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council (Camex) issued Resolution Nº 72 approving import tariff quotas on sodium metabisulphite, certain aluminium sheets and strips as well as contact lenses. For the affected products, the import duty of the in-quota was temporarily decreased to 2%.

In the cases of aluminium products, the affected goods were classified under tariff lines 7606.12.90 and 7607.11.90 and the approved quota was set at 5,100 and 2,137 tonnes respectively. According to the WTO Tariff Download Facility, the out-of-quota import duty applicable to aluminium products were 8.7% and 7% respectively.

As for sodium metabisulphite and the contact lenses, the new regulation renewed the tariff-rate quota that was adopted in 2019 (please, see related state act).

The new import tariff quotas entered into force on 1 August 2020 and apply for twelve months.
