Public procurement localisation
On 3 June 2020, The Local Content and Governmental Procurement Authority issued the first mandatory list of medical supplies. The list includes 29 products such as:
The products will be included in the "Etimad" platform and health and medical industries will have to purchase the products listed in the mandatory list from domestic manufacturers.
Etimad is a unified digital services platform that allows government entities and private sector contractors to make full use of the Ministry of Finance's advanced procurement e-services, enhancing the speed of the process, ensuring the accuracy of data and increasing the ease of doing business.
In this context, Executive chair of The Local Content and Governmental Procurement Authority Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al-Semary said" The mandatory list of national products has an important role in strengthening the national industry and benefiting from government purchasing power to support and stimulate national products and give them priority in government procurement, indicating that the two lists designated for the health sector will have a direct positive impact in light of the exceptional circumstances imposed by the Corona pandemic, especially the mandatory list. For the medical supplies that included all the infection prevention supplies related to confronting the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and confirmed that the Kingdom has promising prospects in the manufacture of medical supplies."
