In August 2020, the Colombian government announced the temporary elimination of import duties on electric accumulators as a response to the IT demands originated by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns.

Import tariff

On 04 August 2020, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia adopted Decree 1086 that temporarily eliminates import duties on electric accumulators as a response to the IT demands resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and self-distancing measures.  

The measure is oriented to reinforce the sustainability of the telecommunications networks and services that support the daily activities of all citizens, particularly after the rising demand and prices of IT equipment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

According to the WTO Tariff Download Facility, HS code 850790 was previously subject to a 6.3% import tariff. 

Decree 1086 will apply for six months following the official publication day.
