The Brazilian government-funded Company of Innovation and Research (FINEP) launched a new funding initiative for the development of a line of research that helps fight the COVID-19 outbreak.

On 29 May 2020, the FINEP announced the launch of a funding programme to support research initiatives that help confront the COVID-19 pandemic. The programme consists of three lines of research related to the development of mechanical ventilators and supplementary life support equipment; development of diagnostic tests and biosensors, reagents and associated supplies; and protection masks, equipment and systems for decontamination, disinfection and sterilization.
The only scheme that meets all the GTA reporting criteria is the one related to the development of mechanical ventilators and supplementary life support equipment. The total resources allocated to this programme were BRL 80 million (circa USD 14.8 million).
Interested companies can request a minimum of BRL 500,000 (USD 92,212) to up to BRL 5 million (922,000). These company will have to present a financial contribution ranging between 10% and 100% of the total resources be provided by FINEP.
