Import tariff

On 7 February 2019, the Sri Lankan Minister of Finance and Mass Media through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2109/15 increased the Special Commodity Levy on the imports of Potatoes from Rs. 20 per kg. (~USD 0.11) to Rs. 50 per kg. (~ USD 0.28) The levy is effective from 8 February 2019 and is valid for a period of 3 months. 

On 7 May 2019, through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2122/4 and on 7 November 2019 through Gazette No. 2148/24 the levy was extended for another 6 months each, before being reduced on 24 December 2019 (see related State Act).
