ANNOUNCEMENT 17 Aug 2012

In August 2012, the government of Thailand initiated a new anti-dumping investigation and a definitive duty was imposed in February 2014. In February 2019, a sunset review was initiated and the definitive duty was extended for a new period in January 2020.

Anti-dumping

On August 17, 2012, the Thai authorities initiated an anti-dumping investigation on imports of cold reduced carbon steel (in coils and not in coils) from China, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS codes: 7209.1500, 7209.1600, 7209.1700, 7209.1891, 7209.1899, 7209.2500, 7209.2600, 7209.2700, 7209.2810, 7209.2890, 7209.9010, 7209.9090, 7211.2310, 7211.2320, 7211.2390, 7211.2910, 7211.2920, 7211.2930, 7211.2990 and 7225.5090.

On February 6, 2014, the Thai authorities imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of cold reduced carbon steel originating in China, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam. The rate of the duty ranges from 9.24% to 20.11%.

On 5 February 2019, the Thai authorities initiated a sunset review of the definitive duty imposed on imports of cold reduced carbon steel from China, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam.

On 6 February 2019, the definitive duty was extended for the duration of the sunset review. 

On 25 January 2020, the Thai authorities extended the definitive duty imposed on import of cold reduced carbon steel from China, Chinese Taipei and Viet Nam following the conclusion of the sunset review. The rate of duty on imports from China is between 9.24% and 20.11%. The rate of duty ion imports from Chinese Taipei is between 4.22% and 17.47%. The rate of duty on imports from Viet Nam is 14.35%. The duty is in force for a period of five years.
