Import tariff

On 6 March 2020, the European Commission issued Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/383 reducing the import duties applicable to certain husked rice. The duty is classified under HS code subheading 1006.20. The new duty excludes basmati rice.

According to the new legislation the import tariff was reduced from EUR 65 (USD 73.36) per tonne to EUR 42.5 per tonne (USD 47.97). The previous import tariff was set on the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/371.

The applicable import duty on the affected commodity is calculated based on an Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Community and the United States of America introduced in 2005.

Council Regulation (EU) 2020/383 entered into force on 9 March 2020.

On 9 September 2020, the European Commission increased the import tariff, see related state act.
