Import tariff

On 23 November 2018, the Sri Lankan Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs reduced the Special Commodity Levy on Peas. The Levy on "Peas - Whole" was reduced from Rs. 15 to Rs. 5 per kg. (~USD 0.08 to USD 0.03) and on "Peas - Split" was reduced from Rs. 18 to Rs. 8 per kg. (~ USD 0.10 to USD 0.04).

The levy is effective from 24 November 2018 and is announced for a period of 6 months.

The levy was extended for a period of 1 year through Gazette No. 2124/2 on 21 May 2019. The Levy on Peas-Split was increased to Rs. 10 per kg. on 21 May 2020 while the Levy on Peas-Whole was left unchanged. (See related State Act).
