Import tariff

On 24 April 2020, the Chilean Government adopted Exempt Decree 117/2020 decreasing the applicable discounts on customs duties on sugar. The new values apply for a one-month period starting on 1 May 2020.

The discounts were set at USD 76.52 per tonne in the case of sugars qualified as Grade 1 or 2, and USD 19.65 per tonne for refined sugars qualified as Grade 3, 4 and other substandard. The previously applicable discounts were USD 140.21 and USD 86.07 respectively.

The discounts are to be applied to the ad valorem customs duties.

Import tariff

Exempt Decree 117/2020 adopted by the Chilean Government on 24 April 2020 also established a fixed tariff for imports of raw sugar with FOB value below the reference price. For this case, the duty to be paid is USD 0.004 per kilogramme.

Previously to the new regulation, the applicable import tariff set on raw sugar was calculated based on the applicable discounts. In the month of April, this discount was of USD 49.98 per tonne.

The new import tariff applies for a one-month period starting on 1 May 2020.
