Import tariff

On 30 March 2020, the Moroccan government issued Decrees no. 2.20.298 suspending customs duties on chickpeas of HS (0713209010) starting 1 April 2020. The Decree does not include a termination date for this suspension, however, all press releases have pointed out that it will be terminated on 15 June as applied in Decree 2.20.295 suspending import duties on soft wheat and its derivatives, and which was issued in that same Offical bulletin issue, see related state act.

Noteworthy that the applied tariff on chickpeas was 40 Moroccan Dirham (USD 3.91) per kilogram.

This decision aims to achieve stability in supplies and prices in light of the expected decrease in local production due to drought and the repercussions of the outbreak of COVID-19.
