Import tariff

On 20 March 2020, the government of El Salvador adopted Decree 604 eliminating temporarily the import duties on certain food, medicines and medical equipment affecting 31 ten-digits tariff lines.

According to the information of the WTO tariff download facility, the new import duties have been reduced from values ranging between 3.33% and 16.25% depending on the product to 0%.

Decree 604 was adopted in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The new import tariffs entered into force on 20 March 2020 and apply until the National Emergency State declared due to the COVID-19 pandemic is in place. 

 
Update
After several extensions of the Sanitary Emergency State, the government of El Salvador decided that this would terminate on 12 September 2020, unless otherwise renewed.

Import tariff quota

The government of El Salvador adopted Decree 604 on 20 March 2020. The new legislation eliminated temporarily the import duties on red beans and rice for a quota of 25,000 Mt and 7,500 Mt respectively.

The affected products are classified under tariff lines 0713.33.40.00 and 1006.30.90.00. According to the information of the WTO tariff download facility, the duties have outside the quota are 18% and 40% respectively.

The quota will be assigned automatically.

The new import tariffs entered into force on 20 March 2020 and apply until the National Emergency State declared due to the COVID-19 pandemic is in place.
