Import tariff

On 30 September 2019, Sri Lanka through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2090/47 amended the import duty on fresh oranges and fresh apples. Earlier, a Special Commodity Levy (SCL) of Rs. 65 per kg. on fresh oranges and of Rs. 45 per kg. on apples was applicable. When the SCL is valid no other import duty on the products is applicable. The SCL on fresh apples and oranges has now been removed. Henceforth, the duties applicable on such imports will be a 30% general customs duty, 15% VAT, 7.5% Ports and Airports Development Levy, and 2% Nation Building Tax.

The amendment will be applicable from 1 October 2019.
