Import tariff

On March 14, 2013, the Ukrainian government approved (according to State Gazette 48, 4934) a duty on the imports of new cars (HS codes 8703 22 10 00 and 8703 23 19 10) as follows:

  • 6.46per cent on new cars with engine volume 1000-1500 cubic centimetres;
  • 12.95per cent on new cars with engine volume 1500-2200 cubic centimetres.

The duty does not depend on the country of origin and will come into force on April 13, 2013. According to the Ukrainian Interdepartmental Commission of International Trade Law (MKMT), this measure is motivated by the falling domestic production of new cars. The state body also indicates the main international competitors to the domestic car manufacturers: Japan, Turkey, Russia, Korea, Romania, and Germany.
