International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) Report no. 403 of 25 July 2012: http://www.itac.org.za/upload/document_files/20150225033428_Report-no-403.pdf
On 14 September 2012, upon the advice of the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) removed the import duty on AC electricity generators (alternators), classifiable under the tariff headings HS 8501.61.10, HS 8501.61.90 and 8501.62. The customs duty has been reduced from 5%, 10% and 10% ad valorem, respectively, to free of duty. The reduction affects all countries except EU member states, which were already exempted from the customs duty.
The ITAC based its decision on the finding that AC generators (alternators) for fitment into electric generating sets are no longer manufactured in the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).
