Import tariff

On 12 October 2012, following the request of a leading South African manufacturer of electronic products, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) created a new tariff line at the 8-digit level for:

  • 'Other aerials for reception apparatus for television, whether or not capable of receiving radio-broadcast (excluding indoors set-top aerials with a permanently affixed base for placing on top of the television set or another flat surface)'

The products, classifiable under HS 8529.10.20, received an import tariff of 20% on the new tariff line for non-EU/EFTA countries. Previously, such products were categorised under HS 8529.10.90 ('Other aerials') and no duty was imposed.
