On 21 December 2012, following an application by a South African pasta manufacturer, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) increased the import tariff on uncooked pasta, not stuffed or otherwise prepared, not containing eggs (HS 1902.19) for non-EU/EFTA from 30% to 40%.
Simultaneoulsly, the duty rate for EFTA countries has been decreased from 11.4% to 7.5% on January 1st, 2013 as a result of implementing the South African Customs Union-EFTA free trade agreement.
