Labour market access

On 1 January 2013, the Australian Government has significantly increased visa application fees, which may discourage migration. Of particular interest are the visa fee increases for persons engaged in commercial activity or persons related to those engaged in commercial activities. The fee increases include:

  • Fees for partner visas (lodged in Australia) increased from AUD 3'060 to 3'975 (26.6 per cent increase)
  • Fees for partner visas (lodged outside Australia) increased from AUD 2'060 to 2'680 (30.1 per cent increase)
  • Fees for skilled graduate visas (requiring that graduates have studied at least 2 years in Australia) increased from AUD 315 to 1'250 (397 per cent increase)
  • Fees for temporary skilled worker visas increased from AUD 350 to 455 (30.0 per cent increase)
  • Fees for working holiday visas increased from AUD 280 to 360 (28.6 per cent increase)
