Import tariff

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of fixed and sliding railway bumping posts and friction buffer stops. These devices prevent or mitigate the effects of an overrun by a train. These posts and stops are classified under tariff item No. 8608.00.90 of the Customs Tariff as railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings, dutiable at 6.5% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff, and Free under the General Preferential Tariff (GPT). Comments are requested by January 18, 2013.
