In October 2012, the government of Turkey initiated a new safeguard investigation and imposed definitive duties in July 2013. In April 2017, a sunset review was initiated and in July 2017, the duty was extended for a new period.

Safeguard

On 2 October 2012, the Turkish Ministry of Economy announced the initiation of a safeguard investigation on the imports of plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of polymers of propylene (others than those printed) originating from Iran. The concerned HS code is 3920.2000.

On 2 July 2013, the Turkish authorities imposed a definitive safeguard duty on imports of the subject good from Iran. The rate of duty is imposed in the form of a quota subject to import licences. The quota is in the first year 1,149 tonne, in the second year 1,183 tonne, in the third year 1,218 tonne, and in the fourth year 1,255 tonne.

On 22 April 2017, the Turkish authorities initiated a sunset review of the safeguard duty imposed on imports of the subject good from Iran. 

On 1 July 2017, the Turkish authorities extended the definitive safeguard duty on imports of the subject good from Iran for a period of three years. The duty is imposed in the form of a quota subject to import licences. The quota is in the first year, from 2 July 2017 to 1 July 2018, 1,293 tonne, in the second year, from 2 July 2018 to 1 July 2019, 1,331 tonne, and in the third year, from 2 July 2019 to 1 July 2020, 1.218 tonne, and in the fourth year 1,371 tonne.
