NUMBER OF INTERVENTIONS
Decree from 23 November 2012, Mexican Government (Spanish)
Germany Trade and Invest 4 December 2012 (German)
On 23 November 2012, the Mexican Government decided to lower import tariffs on a multitude of goods, mainly agriculture and chemical goods. 135 tariff lines are affected.
The Mexican government justifies the reduction by referring to the lower average tariffs of the neighboring countries. Concerning the agricultural goods, the average tariff will decrease from 21.7 to 14.2 percent. In the case of chemical goods the decrease varies between different groups of products: 15 to 7 percent in the case of eight major products and from 10 to 6 percent for the remaining 64 products.
On 29 August 2014, a decree suspended the tariff reduction on footwear until 31 January 2019 (see under Related Measures).
