In June 2011, the government of Turkey initiated a sunset review and extended the definitive safeguard duty in January 2012. In December 2012, the definitive duty was terminated.

Safeguard

On 11 June 2011, the Turkish authorities initiated a sunset review of the definitive safeguard duty imposed on imports of cotton yarn. The products subject to review are classified under HS code 5205. The definitive safeguard duty was originally imposed in July 2008.

On 25 January 2012, the Turkish authorities extended the definitive duty imposed on imports of the subject good. The rate of duty in the first year is ad valorem 10% with a set minimum and maximum duty of respectively USD 0.29 and 0.85 per net kg. The rate of duty in the second year is ad valorem 9% with a set minimum and maximum duty of respectively USD 0.26 and 0.80 per net kg. The rate of duty in the third year is ad valorem 8% with a set minimum and maximum duty of respectively USD 0.23 and 0.75 per net kg. The duty entered into force retrospectively on 15 July 2011 for a period of three years. Certain developing countries are exempt from duty. 

On 31 December 2012, the Turkish authorities terminated the definitive safeguard duty following the issuance of a Communiqué.
