Export ban

On 30 September 2012, the Egyptian Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade issued a decree authorising the export of milled rice (HS 1006-30) starting from 1 October 2012. The Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade (MIFT) is entitled to issue export permits through tenders for the mentioned commodity in the future. "However, exports are to remain restricted by domestic market needs. MIFT will allocate quotas and quantities on the basis of the availability of rice for domestic consumption." (GAIN report, issued on October 1, 2012).
