Import ban

Regulation 63/2019 by the Indonesian Ministry of Trade replaces previous regulation 125/M-DAG/PER/12/2015 on the importation of salt (see related state acts).

The 2019 regulation further rolls back some of the import restrictions in place in the salt industry. In contrast to previous legislation, it allows now the importation of salt for other purposes than the use as raw material. Namely, Article 5(2) allows such imports by "State-Owned Enterprises engaged in the field of salting and companies holding a NIB [i.e. a customs number] that apply as APIs [i.e. firms holding a business license], which have obtained Import Approval from the Minister [of Trade]."(own translation)

The regulation came into force on 15 September 2019.
