Import ban

On 3 November 2011, Indonesia has announced a ban on consumption salt imports for 2012 as national production (expected to be 1.4M tonnes) exceeds the national demand of 1.2M tonnes. Importers who will not obey the ban will have their import licences revoked.
On 11 September 2012, Indonesia (according to ruling No. 58/M-DAG/PER/9/2012 of the Minister of Trade) lifted the ban as unexpected rains during the salt harvesting season have lead to radically reduced national salt output.
