Price stabilisation

On 7 August 2013, the Turkish Grain Board (TGB) announced the 2013 corn purchase prices. TGB will purchase corn at a base price of 640 TRY (332 USD) per tonnes. Previously in 2012 TGB purchase price for corn was 595 TRY (308 USD) per tonnes (see related state act).

TGB will begin purchases on 12 August 2013 and will continue purchases until 31 May 2014.

TGB guarantees the purchase of all corns in the amount registered in the Farmer’s Registry System.

At intervals, Turkey has been pursuing a purchase price policy on corn since the 1940s. Since 2008, the government has been continuously implementing the purchase price policy on corn through TGB. One of the main duties of TGB is “preventing the decrease of domestic grain prices below the normal level for producers and the abnormal increase thereof against consumers and taking measure to regulate the market of such products”. Apart from corns, TGB, through price support policy also regulates the prices of grains, hazelnuts, paddy, and poppy.

On 15 August 2014, TGB announced the 2014 corn purchase prices (see related state act).
