Import tariff

On 12 July 2019, the SARS has adopted Notice R. 984 creating six new eight-digits tariff subheading under tariff heading 7304.

The objective of this legislation is to increase the competitiveness of the local industry which is facing price disadvantage vis-à-vis Asian manufacturers.

As a result of the changes introduced, the import duty on products classified under 7304.19.10, 7304.23.10 and 7304.29.10 have increased from 10% to 15%.

The import tariff increase does not apply to the EU, EFTA and SADC countries.

This measure has been the result of an investigation carried out by the International Trade Administration Commission which findings were published on its Report No. 601.
