Trade finance

On January 15th, 2019, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a 1.4 billion USD ODA loan agreement with Cote d'Ivoire for the Abidjan Three Intersection Construction Project. This loan will be part of the STEP program which will require the importation of Japanese rapid construction technology by steel for bridges and corrosion prevention technology for steel structures. It was also stated that the main contractors must be from Japan, Japanese joint ventures or be subsidiaries of Japanese companies.  

Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP)
A stipulation in JICA ODA loan agreements is the utilization of advanced Japanese technologies and the employment of Japanese firms in overseas projects.
