Labour market access

On 1 October 2012, the requirement for physical visa labels posted in passports has been abolished for nationals of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Electronic visa grant letters are sufficient to enter into Australia. Other institutions (such as employers, educational institutions or government bodies) are able to confirm the visa status using Australia's Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) service. The physical visa label stickers will still be available for travellers requiring them for transit reasons. The changes were implemented as a part of the label-free travel program to reduce processing expenses and time costs.
