Import tariff

In the state budget proposal for 2013, sent to Parliament for deliberation on October 8th, the tariff system for certain agricultural products will be overhauled. The tariff rate will be converted from a fixed per-kg-duty to a percentage duty and sharply increased as follows:
1. beef filets from NOK 119.01kg to 344% of the imported value,
2. lamb from NOK 32.49kg to 429% of the imported value, and
3. certain types of cheese (HS codes 04.06.9098 and 04.06.9099) from NOK 27.15kg to 277% of the imported value.

According to the budget proposal, no significant effects are to be expected in the short term in Norwegian shops. However, after some (unspecified) time, the conversion to a percentage duty will allow producers to increase their production prices.
