More tuna can enter under the lower, in-quota tariff in 2015 than in 2014.
NUMBER OF INTERVENTIONS
In an April 20, 2015 announcement published in the Federal Register, U.S. Customs and Border Protection made a 0.8% raise in the tuna tariff-rate quota. The agency determined that 15,954,733 kilograms of tuna in airtight containers may be entered, or withdrawn from warehouse, for consumption during the Calendar Year 2015, at the rate of 6.0% under subheading 1604.14.22, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States. That level is up from 15,833,343 kilograms in the previous year. Any such tuna which is entered, or withdrawn from warehouse, for consumption during the current calendar year in excess of this quota will be dutiable at the rate of 12.5% under subheading 1604.14.30.
