Import tariff

On 24 May 2019, the SARS has adopted Notice R. 748 establishing a temporary full rebate on aluminium bars, rods and profiles for use in the manufacture of stabilisation fins classified under tariff subheadings 7604.29.15 and 7604.29.65. Previously to this decision, the general import duty was 15%.

This measure has been the result of an investigation carried out by the International Trade Administration Commission who after confirming that the local production of these goods was insufficient to meet the needs of the copper and nickel industry, recommended on its Report No. 597 the elimination of the import tariff.

The full rebate is subject to an ITAC permit that would only be granted to applicants provided the bars, rods and profiles are not available in the SACU market.
