Import tariff

On 24 May 2019, the SARS has adopted Notice R. 751 deleting tariff subheading 6210.10.20 and inserting tariff subheading 6210.10.50. The objective of this amendment has been to change the description of “disposable panties” to “disposable underwear”.

As a result of the changes introduced with the new legislation, the import duty on products classified under the affected tariff lines have increased from 0% to 40%.

The import tariff increase does not apply to the EU, EFTA and SADC countries.

This measure has been the result of an investigation carried out by the International Trade Administration Commission which findings were published on its Report No. 598.
