Labour market access

On the 21 May 2019, United Arab Emirates' government launched a permanent residency system for investors and for certain workers in the fields of health, engineering, science, and art. The permit is issued for 5 or 10 years and is automatically renewed if applied conditions do not change. 

The new system allows residents of the UAE, foreign expatriates and their families who wish to come to work, live and study in the UAE to enjoy long-term residence without the need of an Emirati sponsor.

FDI: Entry and ownership rule

On the 21 May 2019, United Arab Emirates' government launched a permanent residency system for investors and for certain workers in the fields of health, engineering, science, and art. 

The new system allows residents of the UAE and foreign expatriates to have full ownership of a business or invest in a business. Notably, the old system required a 51% minimum local ownership of a given business within the UAE.
