In June 2012, the Government of Kuwait announced that it plans to undertake measures to reduce the expat community in Kuwait to 45% of the population.
The Interior Ministry in collaboration with the Cabinet is now considering a quota system that would mantain a balance between the Kuwait community and the expat community.
The duration of residency permits for high-skilled workers will be expanded though.
This announcement was reported both in the local newspapers as well as by international embassies in Kuwait.
