Complying with the final report of the WTO Appelate Body on the Australia-New Zealand apple dispute, on 17 August 2011, the Australian government has lifted the import ban of apples from New Zealand.
In 1919 fire blight pests were discovered in New Zealand orchards. To protect farmers, Australia imposed a ban on imported apples from New Zealand in 1921 and did not lift it despite multiple appeals by New Zealand. Effectively, this 90 year old dispute has been concluded by the decision of the Australian Government after internal discussions.
