State loan

On 30 June 2017, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and AGC Glass Europe signed a loan agreement having a total value of EUR 100 million (approx. USD 114 million). 

The loan will support the company's research and development project in the area of glass processing and glass products between 2017 and 2020. The project will mainly be carried out in Belgium and to a lesser extent in France, Italy and Spain.

According to the EIB: "The project will further strengthen the proprietary know-how of a European promoter (ed. AGC Glass Europe) in the field of sustainable glass production and innovative applications which will drive the productivity, competitiveness and environmental sustainability of the company."

AGC Glass Europe has its headquarters in Belgium with more than 100 sites across Europe. The company is a producer and distributor of flat glass for the buildings and automobiles as well as for solar power and high-tech applications among others. 

A state act in the GTA database is assessed solely in terms of the extent to which its implementation affects foreign commercial interests. On this metric, the investment support granted here is discriminatory.
