On 2 July, 2011, the Ministry of Labour has stopped issuing work visas to workers from Indonesia and the Philippines.
This was due to the hiring conditions imposed by the two countries in terms of salary, working hours and other conditions. It is estimated that the two countries will lose circa SR65 billions (US$17.33 billions) in annual remittances.
Many international newspapers confirm the piece of news.
According to local news, the ban on Filipino maid has been lifted on 2 October 2012 following an agreement between the two countries.
