November 12th, 2018 - The Chinese government released a which urged for the state-sponsored spread of Chinese communications standards overseas.

In November 2018, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released Gongxinbu Ke 2018/231. The released concerned a plan to spur increased adoption of Chinese communications standards and infrastructure overseas, in countries covered by its 'Belt and Road Initiative' (BRI).
The document promises increased financial support for the setting up of infrastructure, and to smooth the process of adoption of Chinese communications standards in other countries, for example, help with translation of relevant materials into local languages.
In short, this plan prioritises Chinese businesses, particularly SOEs (which are responsible for Chinese infrastructure projects) abroad.
Affected jurisdictions are those currently (March 2019) included in the roster of countries covered by the BRI, please note however that this list is subject to change.
