Financial grant

In October 2018, the PRC Ministry of Science and Technology released Guoke Fazi 2018/222 (hereafter, 'Announcement'), which contained stipulation for eligibility to be targeted for government support under a 2014 scheme (see related act).

This 2014 scheme promises various support measures for research projects classified under schemes such as this Announcement, including financial grants and other business services.

The Announcement pertains to projects/firms working to improve broadband networking technologies in China.

There are three types of project eligibility criteria, each with a corresponding total budget, as follows:

  • Broadband communication and new networking technologies: USD 118m (CNY 820m);
  • Photovoltaic and microelectronics technology and integration projects: USD 93.6m (CNY 650m);
  • Internet of Things and Smart Cities key projects: USD 43.2m (CNY 300m).

Budgets are stated as being for 2018. Based on the figures above, the total budget would be USD 255m (CNY 1.77bn).

The announcement stated that project leaders must be Chinese nationals, and firms conducting projects must be Chinese
