In December 2018, the Philippine authorities initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of ceramic floor and wall tiles. In June 2019, a provisional duty was imposed. The investigation is still in progress.

The safeguard investigation on imports of ceramic floor and wall tiles was initiated on 20 December 2018. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following 2017 HS code subheadings: 6907.21.23, 6907.21.24, 6907.21.93, 6907.21.94, 6907.22.13, 6907.22.14, 6907.22.93, 6907.22.94, 6907.23.13, 6907.23.14, 6907.23.93, 6907.23.94, and 6907.40.92.
On 1 June 2019, the Philippine authorities imposed a provisional safeguard duty on imports of the subject good. The rate of duty is Philippine Peso 3.00 per kilogram (approx. USD 0.06 per kg). The DTI Order imposing the provisional duty was published on 17 May 2019 and is in force for a period of 200 days. A number of developing countries are exempt from safeguard duties.
