As part of the Ministry of Agricultural, Forestry, and Fisheries' (MAFF) 2014 fiscal budget funds were allocated for the expansion of Japanese tea and fruit production.

Financial grant

As part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) 2014 fiscal year budget 7 billion yen (67 million USD) were allocated to support domestic tea and orchards production and exportation. The funds will go towards the subsidizing of processing of the fruit, the distribution, countermeasures during unprofitable periods and measures to deal with the stabilization of supply and demand.  Furthermore, MAFF will promote the use of new processing technologies for low-cost production technology.  The funds are to be distributed according to the following calculation

  • Value of the area × number of years to be supported

However; in order to compensate for unprofitable periods, MAFF will compensate according to the calculation below...

  • 50,000 yen / (10×Value of the area) × 4 years
