BANGLADESH: VAT Exempted for Imports of Ships Exceeding 5,000 Dead Weight Tonnage
Bangladesh's National Board of Revenue has exempted the imports of ships of more than 5000 deadweight tonnage from a 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) payment. The vessels should not be older than 15 years and must be used for sea freight transport for at least 5 years. The vessel cannot be sold or transferred during these 5 years. Further, the vessel must be locally registered after imports and must employ 70% of its manpower from Bangladesh.
