On 26 December 2016, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade disbursed a subsidy to UEC for R&D into PD35 aircraft engine prototype.

On 26 December 2016, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade disbursed 1.5 billion (USD 24.6 million) rubles in a subsidy to United Engine Corporation for R&D into the PD35 aircraft engine prototype.
The subsidy was formalized as the Russian Government (Agency for the Management of State Property) buying shares in the United Engine Corporation, with a condition that the funds will be allocated to the PD35 engine project. UEC subsidiaries involved in the PD35 are to be the final beneficiaries of the subsidies - Aviadvigatel, TsIAM Baranova, VIAM and Salyut.
PD35 engine is set to be fully built by 2023-25 and power the CR929 wide-body aircraft, also currently developed by the Sino-Russian China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Corporation (CRAIC), a joint venture between Comac and United Aircraft Corporation.
